2022 - Complex & elegant
2022 was a great year for Maison Meyer - not only did we increase our portfolio to 4 appellations and around 4,500 bottles, we also purchased our own property in Pommard where Maison Meyer found its permanent home.
The 2022 vintage produced very, very good, complex and elegant wines. 2022 was a warm and dry vintage with good harvest volumes, which will produce riper and more concentrated wines compared to 2021. Wines that can certainly age very well. As one or two attentive readers of many wine magazines probably know, 2021 was a very small vintage, which had to cope with losses of up to 80%.
In 2022, however, the grapes were able to reach perfect phenolic ripeness without major problems and diseases. Frost in April was not dangerous for the vintage as the vines bloomed comparatively late. The summer was also comparatively dry and warm. The vines in Burgundy were able to cope with these, sometimes extreme, conditions very well. This enabled us to harvest wonderful grapes and produce excellent wines.
The good news is that with the 2022 vintage there will be more different wines for our portfolio. In 2022 we can therefore offer an Aligoté from Ladoix, a Côte de Nuits-Villages Blanc (Chardonnay - Village wine), a Savigny-lès-Beaune (Village wine) and a Côte de Nuits-Villages Rouge (Village wine).
As always, the grapes for the 2022 red wine vintage were selected by hand and fermented in large, open fermenters. The white wines were fermented in Pièces (Burgundian barriques). The Élevage (ageing) of the wine took place around 30 percent in new Francois Freres, Chassin or DAMY Pièce and 50 percent in used barrels from Chassin, Francois Freres or Seguin Moreau. As described, further maturation will take place in steel tanks and bottles.
2022 Aligoté "Le Vris" Aligoté | 750 ml
2022…super RARE - Aligoté in the premier class. "Le Vris" is located in the northern part of the Côte-d'Or and has a north orientation with a slope. Coolness and complexity are what characterize this Aligoté.
A great wine with citrus, herbs, complexity, good structure and length. Unfortunately only too few bottles...
2022 Côte de Nuits-Villages - blanc - "Au Clou" Chardonnay | 750 ml
2022 is the first vintage of this beautiful Côte de Nuits-Villages Chardonnay from the Au Clou location for Maison Meyer. The vineyard is located near Comblanchien and produces tense, elegant and mineral Chardonnays that are characterized by a very nice depth. Citrus, herbs, flowers, brioche, minerality. Pretty serious, as one connoisseur already commented.
Our Reds
2022 Savigny-lès-Beaune "Les Planchots de la Champagne" Pinot Noir | 750 ml
2022 is also the debut vintage for this Pinot at Maison Meyer. An extremely expressive Pinot Noir from the Les Planchots de la Champagne location. And what an expression. Phew, the wine jumps out of the glass with such enormous floral notes with its approx. 15% whole clusters (yes, whole grapes at Maison Meyer). The vineyard is located near the small, beautiful town of Savigny-lès-Beaune near Corton. We love this wine and will definitely consider adding a certain amount of whole cluster in future vintages, as long as the vintage allows it from our point of view.
2022 Côte de Nuits-Villages - rouge - "En Chantemerle" Pinot Noir | 750 ml
2022 is also the debut vintage for this Pinot at Maison Meyer. An enormously complex, deep and long Pinot Noir from the En Chantemerle vineyard. 100% destemmed. Dark, deep, complex, concentrated and yet delicate, like a ballerina.
Chantemerle literally is the singing of a blackbird. This Côte de Nuits-Villages shines with enormously clear fruit. This is Pinot as we love it. The vineyard is located in the southern Côte de Nuits-Villages near Comblanchien. If you read carefully you will quickly realize that we love this region. A region with enormous potential.
